About Me Part II

I haven't been tagged for a meme recently, but I thought I'd share a few random facts about me anyway:

1. My family cat is an emotional eater. When he's been left in the house alone a lot, he gobbles up his food and makes himself sick. His food portions have to be closely monitored.
2. I have to say the word nosey in my head before saying it out loud because I grew up pronouncing the word "newsy." I'm not sure if that's a family quirk or actually a real word.
3. I get mistaken for Ethiopian occasionally and have had people come up to me and start speaking to me in what I assume is Amharic several times over the past few years.
4. I get called 'little lady' occasionally by strangers. I don't take offense because I am literally a 'little lady.' I'm small and short in stature.
5. I didn't know what a credit score was until my freshman year of college when my roommate (now one of my BFF's) explained it to me. I learned what an IRA was from another friend during my sophomore year. My good friends are always passing along valuable information to me!
6. I read the wedding announcement feature articles in the style section of the New York Times on Sundays. They are usually well written and I'm a sucker for 'happy endings.'
7. If I see a piece of clothing that's in what I would consider a reasonable price range, I'll buy it in a heart beat, but cringe at the idea of spending lots of money on restaurants and take-out.
8. I will never like Go-go music no matter how long I live in DC, though I have respect for it.

I've been tagged

Frugal Chick tagged me a while ago I didn’t forget, I just haven’t taken the time to come up with responses. Here are six interesting (very subjective use of the word) things about me:

1. I had a very brief stint as a figure skater at the age of 10 and won a gold medal in a competition at a skating rink in Hershey Park, PA.
2. I have a growing playlist of country music on my iPod. This would surprise anyone who knows me in real life.
3. I sometimes shop in the kids department of Zara and Target…hey if the clothes fit…
4. I saw my nursery school teacher last week and she remembers me though I haven’t seen her in years.
5. I regularly get mistaken for a high school student, I’m told I’ll appreciate this one day, but for now its just annoying.
6. I am at my third job in the two years I’ve been working, but don’t count my first job in conversation because I worked there for less than four months. I left to take a job that paid a little more.

I Got Tagged

Money Maus tagged me to answer the following five questions:

1. What were you doing 10 years ago? I was preparing to start high school 10 years ago (aged 14) in my hometown of Philly. That particular summer, I went on a 14 day trip to Africa and Italy with a group of students where we performed a play and stayed with host families. We spent the whole summer learning about the countries we were visiting and practicing the play. That is one of the most defining experiences of my adolescence.
   
2. Five items on today’s “to do” list: (1) Write a press release for the nonprofit I volunteer for (2) Purchase train ticket to travel to Philly for the weekend (3) Return my library books (4) Revisit my personal statement for my 1st grad school application (5) Return a few phone calls
3. What snacks do you enjoy? Soft pretzels and water ice (yes both of them together!), mint sandwich cookies, watermelon, clementine oranges
   
4. What would you do if you were a billionaire? I would pay off my parents and grandparents mortgages and other outstanding debts, pay off my own debts, purchase a few properties, invest a large chunk of it and give a sizable amount to charities I believe in. I would then take a year off, travel the world, start at least one business and write the next great American novel (I don't really have to be a billionaire to do this I guess).
5. Where would you live? Hmm…so many places come to mind. I’d like to have a home in the Philadelphia area because I love the city and the benefit of being in close proximity to other cities I like, NYC and DC. I’d also like to have home in West Africa and an apartment in Italy.
